When most of us think about bank accounts, more importantly opening a new bank account, we tend to go to the banks found on the high street. I guess it’s because we have been doing this for most of our lives and have never really bothered to consider alternatives and if there are any advantages in those alternatives. I mean after all, it’s just a place to store our money.

Up until recently, this was always the same way I went about things. That was until I discovered the M&T Online Banking account. As the name suggests, this new style of account is solely web based / online and operates in much of the same way as your regular high street bank. The major advantage I noticed was not that I could manage all aspects of my account online, but more so the fact that the annual percentage yield was much higher than its high street competitors.

If you’re considering a new bank account, for whatever reason, have a look at what’s on offer online. I expect you don’t think twice about taking a loan out or similar with an online bank due to the savings that can be had. Your current account is no exception.
